Pint Sized
I recently put in a submission to show work in a show called
‘Pint Sized’ and I’m happy to say that my digital collage ‘Psycho’ was chosen
to be displayed at the show. Although the collage was primarily made as an
experimentation and form of play, I have been getting lots of really good
feedback on the piece and so decided to submit it! the show will take place
from the 15th-17th February and the private view is on
the 14th February. If you’re near Folkestone please go and have a
look!
This is the statement I put alongside the submission.
“Art is a platform that has no language, it only requires
understanding from the viewer to be able to create a certain connection to the
individuals own experience. This is what I look to create in my work, something
that can create a bond with the viewer to make them think about their worldly
perspective and perhaps alter their understanding of the world. While my
practise is constantly developing through many mediums and themes and enjoy
creating these digital collages as they keep me thinking about new ways to
explore ideas and motivate further developed works.
I have a great interest in the connection between people and
media, specifically movies. For an hour or two a person can escape their own
reality and enter into one that is fantastical and exciting, thus stimulating
the persons mind and way of thinking, motivating them. cinema and the movies
are often used as a platform to metaphorically connect social and cultural
issues into a realm that is easier to understand. Horror has always been
something consistent in my life, the thrill of the movie and the adrenaline
rush it gives. The spooky and gloomy aesthetic takes me away into a different
world that personifies these demons that cannot be seen in day to day life.
Psycho is perhaps one of the best-known horror/thriller
movies ever made, it has become a staple in the genre and described as a
cinematic masterpiece. As a child I had a strange fascination with the bates
house, the eerie aesthetic as Norman walks up the stone stairs into the
beautiful family home. It is the house of my dreams but to others a house of
nightmares. I explore that fascination of the house and of the female scream
(another horror staple) in this digital collage.”
