London Show

I took this piece to our first year London show and it went really well, the install took a full day and there were lots of bumps in the road but I got there eventually and I am really happy with the work I produced.


This piece was also an experiment for the self-initiated project. I think that I will focus more on the wax elements but this was a good attempt at something different and I really enjoyed making it!

I raided the wood bin in the workshop of all the wood blocks and bought a new bottle of mod podge to start transferring the images onto the wood. Originally, I was going to use photos of models and their bodies but it has resulted quite difficult to find models willing to be completely nude, so I decided to use my own body.  The blocks will be displayed on the floor in almost a scale model of a city. Like a sort of 3D map. This brings in more social and economic viewpoints into the work that can relate to the body in a few different ways.

We finally revealed Uncensored this week and I can say that It was indeed quite stressful. I struggled quite a lot during this part of the unit, mostly because I had a nasty bit of artist block and just wasn’t able to formulate ideas into physical works. My tutor suggested just cracking on with some collages to get me back into the flow of working and this helped a lot. I was able to produce a few interesting pieces, influenced by classical Greco-Roman statue/sculpture. The results of these were unexpected and quite fluid as I did not plan anything, I just created in the moment, I found this way of working for me very strange but it produced new outcomes I am interested to explore. After finishing my essay on gender performativity, I was really inspired with what kind of context I want to include in my work. I have been trying for a long time to move away from the fluid painting and classical sculpture interests, but I couldn’t move anywhere as I had no idea where I wanted to go and so I was just floating around for the last few weeks working on more written work than physical pieces.  After finishing the essay, I started to look more into horror and sci-fi movies. I became really inspired by the visual settings of horror movies, Mostly the houses and the role they play in the settings of the movies. Horror has always been something consistent in my life, the thrill of the movie and the adrenaline rush it gives. The spooky and gloomy aesthetic takes me away into a different world that personifies these demons that cannot be seen in day to day life. Cut-and-Shut @artsspaceportsmouth

We had our first show of the year at Arts space Portsmouth. The show is Called Cut-and-Shut and had the amazing opportunity to go and be a part of the set-up team for the show. I am quite interested in curation and so I really enjoyed being able to go and help put up this show and get to know everyone’s work better. My Digital Collage was also chosen to be the artwork for the posters and flyers which is really exciting! The piece that I made for the show was a development from the previous work I have been making so far this year. I continued to develop the fluid painting and trying to evolve the technique to make the texture more gaseous, like that of a surface planet. I also used one of the wax pieces I had made and decided to incorporate this into the piece, merging 2D painting and 3D sculpture to create a multidisciplinary piece.
